GRACE NOTES
By Bernard MacLaverty
Task 1
Step 3, pp. 56 – 83
How would the character answer the following question? How does it
characterize her? Write the answer as if you were
the character herself.
(p.59) - What
was the point? What was the point in going on if every waking was to be this plunge
into panic? ......
As an Introduction.....
Why did I decide on this Project for our final discussion?
While reading the book our eye can't but be caught by an abundance of metaphors B.Maclaverty employs in his novel, metaphors which keep his ideas"under disguise" and make the reader think over the character and the situations - WHY does the author say it like this?.. WHAT does he want to say?.. why does he make us think about THIS?.. and in THIS very way?..
Some metaphorical images are quite clear, others make us think longer, some - in our case - demanded general discussions to share ideas which only then helped come to certain conclusions.
But that was an enjoyable metaphor-untangling experience!!!!
TASK SETTING
Every student is to choose a metaphor he/she likes most of all and introduce it to the class and explain it in the most understandable way. Imagine that you are a linguistic professor reading a lecture on metaphors. How would you make your students involved, how would you make them understand what Metaphor is, how it functions, what it implies in this very context and why?!!!!!

Maybe bacause l should feel the same emotions and states again again to find something valuable to keep living.
ОтветитьУдалитьEverything began when I left my hometown, my family. It was the beginning of my suffering. I didn't return. Our relationships were becoming colder and colder. And now my dad died.
ОтветитьУдалитьWhen did it begin? After her father's death? Or after leaving her home? Her life seemed to be empty as if she lost something important but she didn't understand what exactly. Something little but significant.
ОтветитьУдалитьGood, Olya! Only not "her" but "my" as you are writing as if you were the character herself!:)
УдалитьI think my gloomy thoughts can kill me once if I do not find the way to quit myself of fears. Every night I see nightmares about my father and about my past, which torture me. And I`m afraid that they will stay with me for good.
ОтветитьУдалитьWaking every morning became useless after the death of my father. When people whom we love leave us, it is just impossible to make up this loss. Everything loses its meaning and it seems, that the world around you doesn't exist. There are only you with your complete solitude and this unbearable pain, which can not be damped. I have no ideas what I should do next, but, perhaps, I must just move on.
ОтветитьУдалитьIt is very difficult to deal with my father's death and I do not know what to do. Life has stopped for me. He is gone and I seem to lose myself together with him.
ОтветитьУдалитьit is pointless to look ahead. it is difficult to make plans. father is gone. i loved him like nobody in the world. and now he's dead. my life has lost its bright colors. it becames incomprehensible, unpredictable. a hopeless gloomy nightmare that is no longer over. never....
ОтветитьУдалитьCatherine tried to relive her life because her father had already dead and her life seemed to be empty. It was very difficult for her to think every day that she did not sleep she lived in real world and she had to continue to live. Catherine wanted to sleep again and again.
